Reducing energy use saves money. Plain and simple.
There is no debate that Cool Roofs benefit society, save energy and save dollars. Who says that Cool Roofs provide these benefits to society? These entities do:
- The U.S. Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Energy Star® Qualified Roof Products Program
- The Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) Product Rating Program
- California Energy Commission Building Energy Efficiency Standards for Cool Roofs - Title 24
- U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System
EnviroCoatings Ceramic InsulCoat Roof is rated by and/or participates with all these programs.
But what about Cool Wall programs?
We know at EnviroCoatings that Ceramic InsulCoat Wall will function as an energy savings component for any building enevelope. Think about it. How many sides of your building are blazing hot part of/or most of the day?
What effect does that heat load have on your HVAC systems? Imagine if you could decrease that load. You would reduce energy use and save on utility bills. Just like a Cool Roof.
At present, there are no organized or managed "Cool Wall" programs in existance. We continue to push industry building, rating and certification entities to look at THE ENTIRE BUILDING ENVELOPE when discussing methods to reducing energy costs.
Today, the US Green Building Council does take into account the entire building envelope when rating structures with their LEED Green Building Rating System. However, they do not specifically recognize "Cool Walls."
We believe it is just a matter of time before the building industry and technology recognize the benefits of "Cool Walls."
In the meantime, the technology and product is already in a pail and available for you to use today. And that is Ceramic InsulCoat Wall.
Ceramic InsulCoat Wall and Roof promote "Cool Zones" so entire buildings can contribute towards lowering environmental temperatures.
This assists in reducing the effects of Urban Heat Islands.
What is Sustainability?
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) presents this definition:
"Sustainability is based on a simple principle: Everything that we need for our survival and well-being depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment. Sustainability creates and maintains the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony, that permit fulfilling the social, economic and other requirements of present and future generations.
Sustainability is important to making sure that we have and will continue to have, the water, materials, and resources to protect human health and our environment."
Ceramic InsulCoat Wall and Ceramic InsulCoat Roof meet or exceed ever increasingly strict environmental guidelines. The products are water-based, 100% acrylic, and non-toxic:
- EnviroCoatings products contain no formaldehyde, ethylene glycol, petroleum distillates, silica, mica, quartz, or other chemiclas listed as cancer causing.
- No special ventilation is required during application.
Reduced Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are emitted as gases from certain solids and liquids - like paints and coatings. They lead to the formation of smog and are dangerous to humans and the eco-system.
In California, the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) is the air pollution control agency for all of Orange County and the urban portions of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, the smoggiest region of the United States.
Consequently, SCAQMD has very stringent VOC regulations. To comply with their VOC guidelines, EnviroCoatings products have been tested and meet SCAQMD regulations for VOCs.
Specific VOC information is available on our Technical Data Sheets.
Ceramic InsulCoat outlasts typical exterior paints and coatings up to
3 to 5 times. The extended coating life means less expense, plus fewer repaints over the lifespan of buildings.
Our products have been applied on buildings well over 20 years ago, and they still do not need a re-coat. These performance characteristics are the reason why so many high-rise office towers, apartment buildings, and hotels have retained their classic appearance and their owners have reaped enormous financial benefits by minimizing the care and upkeep of their premises.
Long coating life equates to fewer total VOCs released into the atmosphere over time, as you do not need to paint as often.
These are all examples of Sustainability.
Environmentally Astute, Green and Responsible
The high performance ceramic additives found in Cerylium technology and the resulting thermal characteristics reduce energy use. This helps to save the environment by using less electric power and less natural gas
to heat and cool buildings.
Selecting EnviroCoatings products for use on your real estate investments is a wise social commitment.
